The 2 tire rule
Well now that the FIA has found a way to actually mark the tires so we can see what tire compound the cars are on, I'm finding this whole thing very interesting.
Is it just me or does it seem like there is not much of a difference between compounds? I mean during the race when a car goes out on the other tire just to say they have used it, I'm not seeing a big drop off in performance, am I missing something?
Also, if a team has to use both compounds in a race, and it seems like many teams are choosing to use the other compound near the end of the race, what happens to a team or driver if half way through the race it rains and they go onto the rain tire and stay on them till the end, thus never getting a chance to use the other tire? Will there be an exception to the rule due to rain or will they be forced to do something like go out on the other compound in the rain? Not that I think Bahrain is going to have rain, but eventually this year we will have it someplace.

I don't think there was much difference in Malaysia since they had to be on harder compounds to start with because of the heat. I think on TV they said the Malaysia soft was the Melbourne hard. Probably end up the same in Bahrain. Once they're back to more normal climates I imagine we'll see more of a difference between the two.
I would think there'd have to be an exception to having to switch to inters/wets. They could always switch last year in the wet without issue.
I hope it rains so Ron Dennis can gripe more about other teams not running the tires he thinks they should.

That was a classic in the on track interview at the last race where he accused BMW Sauber of running a light fuel load (thus their speed) as something they were doing to mess with his teams cars at the start of the race. And then I nearly fell over with laughter when his cars had to pit 1st for gas...
