Well, I'm disappointed that I didn't get more posters weighing in on this one. Surely we all have an opinion on this and something to say? Your thoughts are appreciated or has it all been said by those few who have contributed.

2kturkey, so are you saying that you are pissed cause they never found WMD? ie if they did find it, would that have made the war OK? (I am not stirring, just trying to clarify).
I was alwasy for the war, and it had nothing to do with WMD. I find it stupid how the whole world turned a blind eye when in his first week, Saddam executed all his challangers in parliament in front of the parliament building. I think Saddam should have been removed a long time ago... so looking at this war I say "About friggin time!".
But let's face it, the war had nothing to do with WMD... we all know it was about oil. May be stirring up htis whole thing about WMD missing is a plot to take attention away from the oil. Who knows?

I'm not too sure about this whole 'oil war' thing. I can accept that a major motivation for the overthrow of Saddam was to remove a meglomaniacal tyrant from controlling a vast quantity of the worlds oil (by all accounts a good thing), but it really depends who benefits from control of the oil after the event. If the Iraqi people end up with a better life after the event then I'm all for it.
And I suspect that's where it's going. Sure western companies will invest in the development of the oil fields and profit from it, just like they would have under Saddam, but at least the profits won't be spent on the army and Uday's porn collection.

It's really generous of us isn't it? Bomb and sanction their country into the stone age and kindly allow them to repair the damage we caused using money from selling their oil to us. Do you know that the projected revenues from oil will only cover about half the ongoing cost of rebuilding the country? We of course will have nice cheap oil.

Not really. That's less than the annual reconstruction bill. It's also a great deal less than the US spent destroying the place (and that bill is ongoing). Why wouldn't they pay it back anyway? Is it going to be waived? That would be a miracle.

Iggy, good to hear from you. No I am not saying it would be acceptable if they found WMDs. To me it was obvious from the start that they never existed. What I am saying is that this is just further proof that the politicians who got us into this mess are good for nothing lying bastards who will use whatever means at their disposal to sway the gullible public into supporting them.
I have three concerns:
1. the indecency of the politicians and the fact that they dare to treat us with such contempt;
2. the gullibility of the public in that we allow them to get away with it.; and
3. the fact that so many of us do an about face as soon as we think we are on a winner
Sorry, if you don't want to join in CKY but at least spell arse the Aussie instead of the US way. We're already suffering sufficiently from the effects of rampant US cultural imperialism without needing to spell everything their way.
Read Wilcox's cartoon in The Age today - I think it sums it up all of the above very nicely.
