I went through 2 diffs on my 2 year old S back in the day, both times they didn't actually completely fail, just ended up making this horrible grinding noise. When they looked the diff oil was full of bits and pieces, metal for the first one then metal and plastic in the second one!
I drove spiritidly but never did a clutch drop launch.
Thankfully the car was still under warranty so Honda picked up the bill.
So it seems these diffs vary in quality considerably. I wonder if the components were sourced from multiple suppliers or they changed suppliers?

I'm using LE607 in mine. It's supposed to be the ducks gut of diff oil and at $100 a litre it should be. It is now superseded by LE1605.
Chris Barry has inspected a Honda crown and pinion and noticed several manufacturing defects. Incorrect hardening and sharp angles that encourage cracking IIRC.
If my diff ever goes I will change the crown and pinion to one from Kia. I've also considered the Nissan conversion but this is several thousands of dollars. Like 5.

Did you take your car to Hanny's today? There was a GPW AP1 there with a blown diff. Pete had the old diff out and new in about <1 hour.
The one put on was a conditioned second hand diff but don't know how much it was. I believe he got it from Honbits for the customer.

Where? (sorry, just me being a grammar nazi).
How did you do it?
I recently launched off the lights, wheel hopped and broke an axle. But I still haven't broken a diff and I'm up around 500hp.

i was just driving like a grandpa 60kph but it had been making a strange sound for about a week an a half and i had already booked it in for saturday for them to have a look at.the thing is the original sound was something i had had before (bout 8 months ago) and pete fixed it for nothing and he told me something was was loose around the hub so i thought it was the same thing but then the other day it changed to i taping sound an the original sound aswell.the original sound only happened when i slowed down to 5 -10 kph
