Hello everybody, long time no post!

Just had my s2k in for a 75000k service, they looked into the noise coming from the right rear wheel (started as a clunk slowing down, now a faint grinding - louder when turning left.)

Anyway dumped the diff fluid and found some metal bits - they feel I need a new diff.

Apparently these run at $6k, bummer. They are checking with Honda to see if they are feeling generous (warranty has run out).

I think I will get Bay Road exhaust to have a look for a 2nd opinion.

Anyway I am picking up my Kawasaki ZXR250 today, so I will have something to smile about!
Suggest you take it to Carl at CRS Automotive - Carl is ex- Travis/Robert Lane service manager who has started his own business.
Tell him you got his details here for a discount. Phone # is 9776 1505.

^ I think slick's suggestion is a good idea. Get another opinion from a good reputable mechanic.
IMHO
1. if this is your first or second diff oil change then there WILL be metal shaving + smelly black diff fluid
2. sounds like you lsd is stuffed rather than the crown wheel/pinion. Do figure 8 test and see if the sound is worst. It could also be from rare bearing failure as well.....but the car is not old enough for that.

Honda came back with bad news, not willing to help $$$ wise.

I called Carl and he seems to know his stuff, I will need to save some money and then drop the car in so he can confirm the problem. He can replace the diff with the Honda part for less than $6k. I think I am leaning towards honda9krpm's 4.44 to get some benefit out of this exercise.
