Hi,
I'd like to install cruise control. I'd like it to look like stock (well, stock in the US anyway), i.e. controls mounted on the steering wheel, on/off switch in the dash, etc.
If you've installed cruise in the S2K, can you let me know the details? Brand? What shop? Etc.
Thanks...

I have installed aftermarket cruise control and it looks very similar to the US install:

It is a Rostra Electronic with RF switch and cost about $700 installed at my premises. Was 3 years ago though. Contact Electric Life.

Before I got my S, I naturally assumed that it had CC, given that the US version had it (I'm partial to US car magazines/forums)...and having come from 4 months of RX8/350Z usage. I was surprised to find that our AUDM models lacked it, but its not that big a deal to me personally...something that I can do without.
I was just wondering though, why do our AUDM models lack cruise control? Does the JDM model have it?

I have the Autron unit on my WRX and it is hopeless. I can drive far more smoothly than it does. Going up hills is particularly bad, with the unit alternating between far too much throttle and far too little. Playing with the settings does not help.
The caveat here is that the WRX has a time varying throttle response (turbo lag for the laymen) and this is very hard for the cruise control to deal with. Humans can learn to predict this kind of thing but the computer is just not that smart. I think this is partly why WRXs didn't have cruise from the factory for so long, and when they did I had a friend whose description of the performance of his sounded even worse than the Autron fitted to mine. So, your mileage may vary, but you have been warned.

Only USDM Ss have it standard. Just another US-style creature comfort that is considered standard there.
Big difference when the freeway/interstate goes on for 400-500 kms non-stop, unlike here where freeway conditions don't last more than 50 kms. Not long enough for you to wanto to turn on the cruise control.
BTW the smart has an actual speed limiter (not just a chime) that I have used a total of.... NEVER!

As I mentioned before, Im actually quite happy to go without it. But I must admit I was spoiled when I had the RX8 and 350Z, cruise control on all the way through the freeways

I installed the cruise control before driving up to Indy in 2001. I figure if I'm going to get a ticket it will be for doing something deliberately wrong, not for drifting over 110 on the Pacific Hwy.
In the end I didn't really need it. I spent most of my time doing 140K on back roads. What a blast.
But cruise comes in very handy for trips to and from Wakefield. Keep the speed on the track (and mountain twisties) I say.
