Warning: Another speed camera on Spit Rd
Yesterday I made 4 trips along Spit Rd (major arterial from Sydney to the Northern beaches). Spit Rd has had a speed camera at the top and the bottom for some time now and we all make a point of slowing down for them.
I just read today that there is now a camera mid-way!
I was driving the Civic yesterday so I guess that lessens the probabilities of me speeding at the particular spot, but I won't be surprised when I receive one or more fines in the mail.
So anyone using this road (Cayenneguy, Swell65, etc) be warned. Be careful.

where in particular, it's not on that corner where that funny box thing is where that girl died in that head on a few years back. i was stuck in traffic for ages and when i saw the wreckage i saw 2 head marks in the windscreen of the small car and the 4wd was only slightly damaged. i still don't know how it happened, although it was pissing down that day. they should scrap the two cameras (revenue raising bastards) and leave the new one ( if it's in the twisties)

I did a slow drive along Spit Road yesterday (you can't imagine the looks you get driving an S2000 at 35Kph on that stretch of road). Couldn't see an extra camera anywhere but I did see a lane closed and some work going on. I think the newspaper article jumped the gun and the camera hadn't been installed at the time of publishing.
Still, be careful. Especially on this "two for the price of one" weekend.

yeah same here, i looked everywhere and couldn't see any new ones. saw the road work though.
somebody said that some cameras can take photos going both ways but i'm not convinced because the flash would go off right in your eyes which may cause some problems.
what's the actual legal thing regarding radar detectors in NSW, how much is the fine, how long can a police officer search ur car for and can they search you for it, etc. just asking coz i see the ads in road and track mag and the valentine one looks like "its the boss" with the directional arrows.
anyone remember the old whistler detectors that went off all the time, they were fcuking useless.

I thought there was also the issue of confidentiality - the old cameras took photos of the whole car and possibly the driver...that's why only photos from behind were taken (urban myth?)

I forgot to mention, I saw where the new camera is going. It's on the Eastern side of the road so covers vehicles travelling south, up the hill towards Mosman. It is 380M south of the existing camera at the base of the hill.
At this point it's just a pole with some cables hanging out.
