Default VW Beetle at the track

I am exploring the possibility of getting a VW beetle for work and perhaps do some track work with it. What do you guys think?

First of all: Yes, it HAS to be a VW Beetle. So please no "You should rather buy this or that" comments.

Second: I saw in some of the old posts that a Beetle RS was faster than Drew Russel's S2000 at Winton. Maybe it had more work done on it maybe not.... however I haven't been able to find where would you buy a Beetle RS in Australia. All I can find is the Beetle Turbo (110 KW). Anybody can shed a light on this?

Let see those replies!

Hey Cashout,

are you talking the new beatle or the old school beatle??

I used to have a 73 beatle with a 911 motor in it. before i put the 911 motor in it had a pobjoy 2litre motor. both were good on the track but with the 911 i could pop little wheelies. fully sick.

See ya.

Chris.

Chris,

It has to be a new Beetle. But I have (yet to confirm) no limitation (from work) on what engine it can have, other than $$ that is..

Basically the beetle is sitting on the TT platform isn't it? From what I have seen they can be tuned really easily but I have not seen any details of them being tracked.

You might want to ask/research on ...

The Beetle RS was not available for road use in Aus. They brought a few in for competition to promote the brand.

I assume your new job is with VW, or perhaps the Mardi Gras Committee.

Isn't the Beetle a Golf in drag?

Oooh, ooh, I know, you work for Redbull right?? The beetle will have one of those giant cans welded to the back, that will look cool on the track!

The aerodynamics would certainly be interesting

Can't tell you what the new job is coz "I ain't got it yet!". And being able to track the car is high in my demands list (I am a crazy fool I know:-) )

Red Bull is big into motorsport though....
