So do you actually know what it means to set the sensors to 01 01 or any other setting? I couldn't find any info on it on the net.

My investigations lead me to believe the sensor setting is for different types of air flow/mass sensor. For example 08 08 is for certain hot wire type sensors. Not sure why there is an in and an out but hey. Basically it sets the voltage range it expects. In a Honda that is 0-5V.

If your VTEC was coming in late it was more likely your number of cylinder setting. In a 6 cylinder car you count six pulses as a revolution. If you set the VAFC to 6 cylinder on an S2000 9000 rpm would appear as 6000 rpm on the VAFC and VTEC would not kick in.

Guys you have all been great.

C & V wont look at it again (without charging me)until the prob replicates itself again.
So far it hasnt't but I haven't had an opportunity to take her on any long drives yet i.e over 1/2 hour.

They were saying it could be the AEM CAI that is causing the probs. I told them the AEM had been on the car for over a year and there were never any probs.

Do you think I could be causing my car any damage when this happens? Or is that an engine precautionary measure when it wont rev into V Tec range?

I doubt you have done any harm. All that the was happening was that you were getting the wrong MAP value and the ECU was not letting you into VTEC.

Yes this would affect your fuel trim, but if you'd done damage you'd know about it.

I think you might want to lower your settings -13 is very lean and will lead to engine damage, i have had mine for 2 years and the lowest I will go is -11 and that is at 9000. Glad to see you got it worked out though.
