Tyre Wear
Hi guys
I have just noticed that my front tyres are wearing very unevenly. I wish I noticed earlier because the inside of both fron tyres are almost completely bald! I dont know much about toe in etc but was wondering why this is happening?
I run my tyres at about 38 psi and maintain the pressure - checking every month or so. I use the car mainly to go to work and back - some nice corners but mainly straight line driving i suppose Last time I got the fronts changed I got them to do an alignment - I think that was at about 34 000km. I am at 61 000km now so they didnt last very long at all considering I have gone to less track days lately.
I have to replace them soon but should I get another alignment done...didnt work last time...

Taipan, I just had my fronts replaced recently for the first time since i got mine as a second hand car 2 years ago...i let them go as long as i could as i don't hammer it around but they were completely bald on the inside edge as well...a friend noticed the wear when i was parked with the steering at full lock..Don't know anything about suspension setup but I just put it down to the agressive handling setup...oh, and i keep mine at 32 psi.

What you can do is swap the tyres (not the wheels) left to right. The will still be rolling in the same direction, but will wear on the other side.
That said, 38 is probably too high for these tyres. What's the recommended?

It sounds like you have way too much camber for the kind of driving you're doing. If you have anymore than -0.5deg of camber at the front, then you will wear out the inside 1st, unless you're willing to drive hard enough to 'even it out' on the outside.
I run my tyres at about 38 psi and maintain the pressure
I used to run 40psi in the front, and had -1.3deg of camber at the front and still managed to get pretty even tyre wear. So it just depends on your driving.
I'd guess that if you lower the pressures, then you will get even more tyre wear on the inside, so I'd recommend getting an alignent done, and ask them for -0.3deg to -0.5deg of camber at the front. This will help with your tyre wear, and you should not notice much difference unless you get the car close to the limit.
ps. The '04 model S2000's come with almost 0 deg camber there.

Thanks guys, thats great. Unforturtunately it is a bit late to swap the tyres over - too worn, but I will see if I can change the camber when I get the new tyres fitted.

With S02's I only get 13,000km per set, and when I set to UK specs, I get 9000km. I had 3 sets of tyres in 1yr.

My OEMs had about 10k on them with even wear when I ditched them for something with wet grip.

What alignment settings do you have, and what pressures do you use??

I now use cheap tyres and I have clocked 23,000km and still going and the front is hardly worn. I use my s2000 on a daily basis and 3 sets of tyres for normal driving was a bit much plus I would get a divorce if I keep spending 3-4000 on tyres each year
