Tyre Selection
Hi Guys
I need some help in selecting tyres for some rims I have just purchased for my s2000.
They are 18x7.5's and 18x8.5's
The two major considerations for me in choosing tyres are:
1. Noise
2. Grip
Can anyone please suggest tyres that have a low road noise factor, yet still have a reasonable amount of grip. The car is mainly used for weekend driving.
Your suggestions/ideas would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Christie

depends on cash, currently some of the best tyres that a lot of people r saying is the michelin pilot sport 1 or 2, but they mega $$, for 18" ur looking at well over 600 ea
besides that, the yoko es100 get a good rap, so do the bridgestone so3, and the so2, but they r broken down again by $$
basically, it boils down to how much $$ u r willling to spend, if u just want to drive the car round town then the yoko's r good, but if u want spirited driving, then maybe spend the extra and go the so2 or michelin tyres

Also Continental ContiSport2 should be listed with the tyres that Blacks2k mentions. One of the best tyres around (for both grip and noise) .... have them on the HSV R8 at the moment. Though, it's around $700 per tyre.

im not too sure of the price but i was watching this show called 'bright ideas' and it was advertizing 'toyo tyres' and how safe they are and low on road noise. you may like to look into that. and lastly theres bridgestone tyres, they have alsorts for all sorts of cars. good luck.

Very informative s2o0o.
Obviously you didn't end up selling your S2000 before going overseas Christie!? Good to hear.
In regards to tyres a relatively cheap solution would be to have a look at some Falken Azenis. The performance is reasonably good for a road tyre and the prices are pretty good. Donnellans stock them and offer discounts to HSCC members also.
Worth checking out.
Otherwise I'm sure slick can hook you up with some nice Toyos that should do the trick.

Is tyre rating an insurance consideration? The S comes with W rated tyres. If you have an accident with V rated tyres can the insurance company knock you back?
Something to consider.

On the topic of ratings, the load index/rating of the new tyre must be at least the same if not higher than that of the standard tyre. If an insurance company wants to be picky they can void insurance over this issue. I think it might even be a roadworthy item. I'm sure slick would be able to tell us?
Sorry to go OT but is the load rating of the OEM tyres the reason for the relatively low max weight limit in australia?
