Transmission question
Hi all,
I know MTF has been discussed a zillion times and I have done all the readings about it. I have a question specific for aussies
Any of you using the Redline fluids ? or you all sticking to HONDA MTF ?
I know the Honda MTF has been widely popular but posts from oil specialist - RoadRage reckons Redline is best. So I wanted to see if any aussies know where to get it from ? autobarn ?
The problem I currently have is notchiness from 1st to 2nd gear and I'm planning to change the MTF and see it that helps at all. I only had my car for a month and don't have the history of services.
I also feel a light but deep clunk every now and then, when going into first gear from a halt. Could this mean that a diff fluid might fix ? the clunk seems to happen at the diff and is a millisecond after getting into the gear. anyone ?
Any help appreciated

Gedday mate Ive been running Redline lightweight shockproof gear oil in the gearbox and diff for a few months. My 99 model has 110k and always had problems selecting 2nd and reverse when cold or cool.Redline has a noticeable improvement when cold and quicker shifts when warm.Cost $140 gallon, same oil in box and diff from Burstons.Try it if your not under warranty.Cheers Col.

I happen to bump into some thread that don't recommend Redline lightweight shockproof

Any thoughts, aus_ss2000 ?
AusS2000, When you say you are very happy, Can you feel the difference between HONDA MTF and your 50/50 mix ?

IIRC I was at 3X,000km with my original MTF (or it was replaced at a Honda service) and it felt notchy. I replaced the oil and it improved and to this day is behaving nicely.
May have just been that the fluid neede a change.

Tranny fluid change seems to get rid of common problems with notchy/grinding gear changing.
Can someone please tell me what are the problem symptoms that a diff fluid change can get rid of ?

Thanks guys, I went to a local Bursons today, They only had RL MT-90 in 1gallon. the MTL that I wanted to try needed to be ordered, I absolutely wanted to change the tranny fluid today so ended up going to my local Honda service center only to find it closed
It's gonna be another week-end before I can get to it.
Any aussie tried the Synchromesh Transmission Fluid Friction Modified from hardtopguy, heard quite a few positive comments about it ?
