Don't really know.
With a quick google I found a page that said that intercoolers are placed between two superchargers or turbo chargers (or one super and a turbo), otherwise techincally it is an aftercooler. It also mentioned that since most people didn't know the difference the name intercooler is commonly used to refer to both applications.

I guess that makes sense, although maybe there is a more technical reason?

Technically speaking an inter-cooler charges the air between two compressors. They were used on some WWII aircraft with multiple superchargers. An aftercooler cools the air after it leaves the compressor on the way to the engine. So technically all these things we use today are aftercoolers.

The difference is that some use air to cool the charge and some use water (which is then cooled by air but hey...). In the common (and ignorant) vernacular we use the term 'intercooler' to describe air-air aftercoolers and 'aftercooler' to describe air-water aftercoolers.

There are pros and cons to both but in a low boost setup like the two SC kits the merits of a short charge path using an 'aftercooler' outweigh any advantages of an 'intercooler'.
