I'm tickled pink..... ...had an off and on rattle from the back for ages and just got home from a spin through the National park and remembered this thread on a possible cause and thought, i gotta find this little sucker.....you guessed it, the spare wheel clamp was about 5 turns loose..have never bothered to look at the spare.....thanks guys....
Ps...Wonder what a dealer would have charged for fixing my rattle?.

My DC5R currently has a high frequency rattle from the exhaust piping, near the catalytic converter. When cold, it doesn't make a noise, so the exhaust note sounds clean and clear.
After driving awhile, the whole thing is warm enough and the rattling starts. It had me scratching my head for the best part of a month, until i used a umbrella to push at the catalytic converter and the noise stopped.
The rattle is more like a sqeak, and at high frequencies (engine at idle, the vibrations cause a sort of resonance) and it sounds like a 'dribble, squeak'. Making the whole exhaust note sound really crap from the side of the car.
I took it to a mechanic and there are no rocks in the CAT, it used to shit me and i guess it still does, but nothing much i can do about it now.... *sigh*
