Speeding fines - perhaps Australia is lenient?
The RPM section of Drive in today's SMH has a story about fines in Norway and Finland.
Apparently there speeding fines are based on 1.5 times monthly salary.
This caused one drunk Rolls driver to get a $50000 fine and a Nokia director to get a fine of $210000 just for driving his Harley at 75 in a 50 zone. Wow - I think I may have done that several times last week - for example that appears to be close to the normal speed for most traffic in Telegraph Road Pymble which is marked as 50 km/h.
If the average wage in Australia is $40000 per annum - and I guess most S2000 owners earn a bit more than that - then 1.5 times monthly salary would be $5000. How would you like to risk that every time you go for a drive.

Not lenient enough IMO. I was just reading the latest Road Ahead (from RACQ) and speeding fines have risen yet again in Queensland. If they keep going the average defaulter will not be able to afford to pay them.
