Shell Petrol

Most definitely.
I've run mine on normal unleaded, it took it fine, but given the choice you should always use fuel with 98 octane or higher, as that's what it's designed to run on.
RACV did a test with a few cars and found that it was not more expensive to use optimax, because you do get improved economy (as shell claim!).

BP and Mobil are also 98 RON. I find BP gives better top end performance than Shell but Shell reduces the off idle stumble. All up, given the cost difference (BP is always 5c a litre cheaper) and better high end performance, I prefer BP

Something that people might like to note before they go into the finer points of the differences between brands is that in each capital city there is only 1 or at most 2 refineries. All brands come from the same batch! This information comes from a colleague who used to work in the industry. It's no coincidence that they all started to introduce 98 RON around the same time (though Shell was a bit earlier). This leaves room for the additive chemistry to be slightly different however.
