The other day I parked at the grog shop, and as I was alighting from my vehicle a chap walked past. He was talking on his mobile to some chump, and was obviously awaiting the arrival of someone he didn't know so well, because he says into his phone "...I doubt he's driving an s2k, so this isn't him."

Maybe I'm just a bit naive, but I didn't think the term "s2k" was particularly common outside of s2000 owners.

Anyone got two cents to throw in?

I don't think its common outside of S2K owners or car enthusiasts, that guy is possibly the latter and picked up the term on carboards or magazines.
