S2000 in Motor PCOTY 2003
Hey has anyone picked up of a copy of the lastest Motor Mag with PCOTY? I have a subscription which is effing late again. Without fail, I get my copy at least 3-4 days after the local 7-eleven does and it irritates me to no end and I wonder why I even bother with a subscription sometimes.
Anyway, had to flick through at the store and saw the S2000 there ranked 18th! Hmmm, expected it to be disliked by the Motor journos but 18th! Just pipped the Toyota Camry Sportivo....phew!
Boxster S wins again..... it's turning out to be a very predictable affair.

As for the S2K's 18th placing - I was surprised, that it even got a run with its limited updates and 'Motor' said that (in not so many words) too - "along with the mildly revised Honda S2000, to boost the Japanese car presence."

1:44.09 - That makes the times some of the guys here are doing look pretty good doesn't it?
That time is pretty good ... better than anyone of us managed on road-tyres. Ben had manaed mid - high 1:44s with S02s and I managed roughtly the same with the Azenis RS. That makes this time good 1/2sec quikcer than what we have managed so far.
I always maintained that I can (eventually) break into 1:43s and that wouold be a very good time for the S2000 (stock). Concidering that conditions vary and they get only 5 laps in each car, 1:44.09 is pretty impressive IMHO, even from a pro driver. It took me 3 visits to Winton (including 1 driving course) to get into 1:44s.
Ben's time at the WRX meet was 1:44.4600, but I think he did better than that at the John Bowe day (which was on S02s).
The WRX-meet time was while Ben was still on semi-race rubber (Dunlop version of RE540s). I know he was in 1:44s at the JB course but not sure about the exact time ... I'm sure Ben will clear it up, but he's certainly holding the record for a stock S2000 on S02s.
ps.
6.36 0-100km/h
14.53 0-400m
Thise are the best times achieved locally (in Motor or Wheels). With 2 peope abord (and the timing equipment), that's not bad at all ... I'm actuall proud of Motor. That and the lap times are pretty iimpressive.

Last time @ Winton - Ben & I were both on 'stock' SO2 / RE711 respectively and we were chasing each other (neither of us could catch or lose the other).... we were doing 1:45's & 46's, with passengers. So you'd expect a Pro driver (who's driven the course countless number of times), to post such times!
