All due respect , the M3 is a legendary car , we all know its rep' . On the other hand , the S2000 is quite possibly one of the most hectic cars to come out this decade ( 2 x times Sports car of the year 99 - 2000) .
Power and performance is quite close .... So it really comes down to you ... weather you like getting head and looking at the Stars ? ( i.e with the roof down ) or looking at your interior light ? ( M3 ) I've got my choice locked in !

Cashout
As for the.....
"Been there, done that".
The S2000 is like a "hot chick" no matter how many times you "been there and done that" .... if you got half a chance you'll be back into it , hitting it STRONG !

Im sure all my fellow S owners out there can gimme a "HELL YEAH" ?

You luckly guy. I would love the opportunity to own an M3. If I were you, I would stick with the M3 for another year or so and wait for another opportunity for the S and make decision then.

Reasons are:

1) Don't bother with an 01 S2000. You'd rather wait and get an 02+. You won't have the problem of rattling clutch on deceleration, potential holes along creases on the roof, clicking spindle nuts that need to be retorqued, and the least likely but most dreaded cylinder 4 failure (possibly banjo bolt problem). ON top of that, you'll get a glass window, split speakers and revised rear suspension setting, and revised banjo bolts in 02+.

2) Sad to say but the price of S2000 has fallen significantly and if you are lucky you might even be able to find a 04/05 with plenty of warranty left in 12months time that falls within your budget.

3) You've just parted with a convertible and there is probably an element of not getting used to the luxury of a BMW sedan. The "Been there, done that" factor Cashout mentioned might not have set in yet. Give yourself some more time to enjoy the M3 before making any decision. If you really want to get back into an S then, there will be plenty of 02+ around.

4) Keep buying Lottery in the next 12 months and if you are lucky, you might be able to keep the M3 and get yourself an S.

Personaly i had an M3 98 3.2 before i bought an S2000 and the only reason i got rid of it was due to personal issues.. IF i were you... i would keep the M3. Yeah sure the S2000 has the windchill factor but the M3 is in a class of its own. A luxury car to take seriously and a flagship that has international respect. I have been ther done that and trust me it will definatly grow on you mate. Keep churpiong those tires!

I would not have sold my S if I had the chance. But I couldn't bring my US version to OZ so that was it. But once you don't have one you can try something different.

Hot chicks are a dime a dozen if you are in the right suburb and can afford to date them all!
