Default replacing fuel light globe?

Hi guys

like most people I drive my car until the fuel light comes on and then make my way to the nearest servo to fill up.
normally when the fuel light comes on I have around 2 bars of fuel left.

I was driving on the freeway and noticed I had around 2 bars left, and thought the light must be coming on soon.
then i ran out of fuel.

since i have filled up and ran it low again and i think the fuel light is blown. has anyone experienced this or changed the globe to it??

Could be your fuel pump floater getting stuck on the side of the tank. I had the same problem a while back.... got 478km out of the tank before it met its demise on the side of the highway (still showing 3 bars)....

This problem mostly happens when people are careless when replacing the fuel pump and bend the float arm.

Has your fuel pump been replaced?

You could test by running the car low on fuel and then jacking up the left hand side. This would simulate an empty condition. If you still show two bars and no fuel light then this is probably the issue.

I don't know if it has been replaced, seems a shame to replace it if its ok.

the light worked until a few weeks ago so i doubt the arm would be bent.

ill try lifting the Rear LHS and seeing if it comes on.

thanks guys

I don't think Ady is suggesting you replace anything. It's just that he got a chance to fix it when he replaced the fuel pump.

Do the jack up test and find out if it is actually the problem before going to all the trouble.

You got 478km out of a tank? I didnt realise you drove a hybrid S2000, I thought all that stuff in your engine bay was to make the car faster.

Not bad considering the work......

I got 531 out of a tank, about 30 clicks of driving on zero bars, and when I filled up, it took 45 litres.

I get mid 400s now that I dont drive it every day, having said that though my fuel light rarely gets any exercise, Im too cautious.
