Radar detector
#11
I hardwired one into my car about 10 years ago. It was a real steath install where you opened the ashtray and the controls were hidden from view above where the ashtray slid out. It worked well. Only problem is that the police have a detector detector which in the case of the one that caught me was made by Uniden, the same people who made my detector.
The detector detectors look for the mixing frequency which is used in the double balanced mixer detection circuitry. When the cop had me pulled over I asked him how he detected it and he let me see it working. It looks just like a radar detector and could detect mine at around 100m range.
Some of the newer units have better circuitry and dont leak as much RF noise out. The problem is the risk and the fines.
I was lucky that the laws had just been put in place and I only got a $150 fine because I co-operated with the police who pulled me over.
Nowdays I get my thrills on the racetrack and keep within 10 of the limit most of the time.

Here in New Zealand radar detectors are still leagal and I regularly use my valentine 1 anytime I am on the open road or occassionally on the motorways when I am late and in a hurry. I have been using my valentine 1 for two years now and I swear by it. It gives you plenty of warning about the presence of a cop and the good thing withs this make of radar detector is it tells you how many boogies are on you and which direction they are.
AS I get older I seem to be driving more sensibly, not speeding as ften as i use to and there hasnt been that many situations of late that the RD has saved.
I pity you guys accross the ditch in Australia.
