Default Ques: RE fitting strut tower brace....

Hey guy's,

When fitting one of these is it as simple as:

1. leave car on the ground
2. open bonnet,
3. remove strut bolt's.
4. attach brace.
5. replace bolts's.

Just thought I'd ask...seeing as it's a quiet day and all...

wil..

Might want to add:

3.5. Adjust brace

The brace should be taught without actually pushing out. Any slackness defeats the purpose of the brace.

Are you getting the Whiteline?

There's also some install instructions in .PDF format on my web site if you need them.

It's under 'Instructions' on the menu.

Hey, can you guys post some impressions of what you feel that the X-brace does? I already got a very possitive write-up from Bernie ... but I'm iterested to hear what everyone has to say?

ps. Anyone in Melbourne with an X-brace?

David, I am not aware of any owners with an x-brace. I have the STB (or Strut Tower Brace) as shown in these photos and the benefit is marginal at best. I think a x-brace could be much more beneficial on an S2000. Hopefully once Naishou gets Whiteside to extract the digit then maybe we can all get a GB going on that.

There has been some talk on the X-Brace and whether it could potentially compromise safety feature of the car in an accident. Any of our engineers want to hazard a view?

A couple of guys on the main board who are engineers have expressed some concerns as well.

Us finance people have no idea!

I posed these questions to Whiteline and got a very reasoned no. They have done a lot of investigation particularly with the WRX where for the My00 or was it (01) they had to remove a Subaru fitted chassis addition that supposedly was fitted to satisfy some crash test somewhere. The only comment was that in a front corner collision the additional rigidity of the chassis could transfer damage but once you move into crumple levels of force the x-brace is already collapsing thus not in the equation.
