Question Plastic Window

had the roof down on my car for all of yesterday. come about 6pm i parked the car at my gfs house, and put the roof up.
just before i open the boot to get something out i notice a tear in the rear window
on closer inspection the plastic seems to have gone hard and brittle and cracked not torn.
the window was soft the day before!
not really sure how this happened or why
has this ever happened to anyone before?

does anyone know of anywhere i can get a new vinyl window installed to the roof?
is it even possible to get a new one glued in?

wondering how much something like this would cost. if its a few hundred i might as well claim on insurance, say someone slashed my roof

any thoughts?

Since when has anything on this car ever been less than a couple hundred bucks to replace?

Id say go with Insurance. You might want to research quotes to see if anyone is able to repair the plastic window rather than replacing it. Another alternative would be to replace it with the Glass window conversion.

hey bro , whats your location ?

i got a mate in syd who does Auto trimming and a couple of yrs back he had a early 90's MX-5 there and he was replacing the plastic rear window on it . Best to goto a trusted trimer and see if it was possible before going thru insurance etc . I recalled he was charging about $300 for the job all up .

but im not sure if the rear window is the same as an MX-5 .

hope this helps in some way anyway

vuey im located in the inner west
for 300 i think id rather go through insurance and get a whole new roof

with the glass roof "conversion", is that simply a glass window replacement or a whole new roof with the glass window in it?

its whole new roof .
as the glass window is quite abit smaller then the plastic rear window . Plus i believe it requires abit of modification for you to be able to open the roof, as it needs to fold differently from the plastic window , also a connection needs to be made for the rear demister .
I got quoted like $3500 for a new roof with glass window from Honda . So i dont like your chances on getting your insurance company giving you that . I think hardtop guy sells a roof with glass window for about $700 US ? dont quote me , check the webstie for confirmed pricing . Good timing as the crew are doing a group buy for various items , so you might want to get moving on it

We won't be doing glass window soft tops. It's a huge part and will blow shipping out.
