Default PCOTY 2000 - S2000 performing badly

While lokking over the PCOTYs from the last few years I came uppon PCOTY 2000 which just happens to have the S2000 there. They took the cars to Lang Lang for the acceleration tests and here's how they fared (0-100kph/400m):
---------------------------------------
911 GT3 5.00/13.07
WRX Sti 5.66/14.00
BMW M5 6.00/14.21
Boxster S 6.08/14.25
Aston Martin DB7 6.27/14.23
HSV R8 6.53/14.69
Maserati 3200 GT 6.69/14.44
Audi S4 6.81/14.59
Commodore SS 6.95/15.01
Elise Sport R 7.51/15.51
Audi S3 7.65/15.50
Ford TS50 7.66/15.54
Integra Type-R 7.80/15.62
Audi TT 7.94/15.64
BMW 328Ci 7.97/15.73
S2000 8.31/15.76
VW Gold Gti 8.90/16.70
Saab 9-3 Viggen 9.00/16.30
Celica ZR 9.39/16.53
Peugeot 206 Gti 9.69/16.70
Alfa 156 Salespeed 10.50/17.31
Lexus IS200 10.64/17.45
---------------------------------------
How's that? Must be the slowest S2000 time ever ... no idea how you can get the S2000 to go that slow as I know that launching off-idle will bring a sub 8sec 0-100kph time most of the time (I did 7.4 with slightly feathering the clutch). Oddly enough S2000 still finished 7th overall.

ps. Cameron McConville extracted all the acceleration times.

If I recall correctly, they did those times with two people in the car.

Shouldn't matter - David and I were able to obtain 6.4s two up in his car.

Most ignorant Australian race drivers and motoring journalists think that the best way to launch all cars is by reving to 3krpm and releasing the clutch.

Maybe they were starting in second gear or they had a dud car?

The part that puzzles me the most is that they got a better time with the integra type-r. The integra type-r is no slouch but a stock s2000 will always beat a stock type-r.

I remember in best motoring the driver dumped the clutch at 9000 rpm and ran 13.8 quarter mile.

I believe my 87 year old mother was the test driver on that particular run.

Another result that is complete BS is the BMW 328 being quicker to 100 than an s2000 and a maserati 3200GT being slower than a Clubsport R8.
I have raced all of the above and all I can say is that a 3200GT is a hell of a lot quicker than a clubsport and an s2000 is way quicker than a 328.

VTEC must not have been kicking in

I agree with Dom

I don't like the 3200GT personally but they are seriously quick. In the hands of anyone but the PCOTY people, the R8 would be toast.

I also can't understand the time of the S2000 although I remember some comment about a badly slipping clutch. I've had a few burns with 330s and always been able to pull away from them (with some effort!) so I can't see how a 328 would accelerate faster than an S2000.

Anyone care to explain why the US car magazines seem to laud the S2000 while the Australian magazines loathe it? You'd almost think it was a different car being tested.

They must not know how to drive the thing..... my Mighty Boy would be quicker than the S if we went by those times published. Does anyone have proper stats as to what our S2000 pulls on the quater mile , when reading the other mags they seem to record 14.7
Is this more of an accurate picture
