One Idiot, so lets punish them ALL!
Anyone hear on the news this morning of the state gov giving more power to the police in the near future?
The story goes, some P-plater 18yo kid was done doing 175km/h in a 60 zone. And he was allowed to drive back home Shouldn't they be arresting him or someting?
Anyway, so now the gov't watns to give powerr to the police to suspend a licence for 2 weeks on the spot... which is fine for things like the above... but here is the catch - they can suspend it for "reckless or dangerous driving". So if a cop thinks you were driving recklessly (wether 10km/h over of 100) you can loose your license for 2 weeks on the spot.
That's the same thing they do with speed in general. They use one example of a bad crash due to speeding, and just use a blanket approach to tighten grip on everyone else "just in case" huh?

Fine by me. In my experience the police do use discretion and are generally polite and professional. Reckless and dangerous driving are quite clearly defined and 10K over in a 60 zone does not qualify.
Like many here have said, so long as the discretion is judge by a human and not a machine it's OK.

In my experience the police has been polite on very rare occasions.
Brings back memories for being pulled over for "not indicating while switching lanes".
As I said, I agree with it in principle like that idiot who was going 175 ... but I do not trust the police to use "good judgement".

Come on, we all know the truth. You laid a patch about 50M long as you accelerated down the road whilst giving the cops the bird. The cops pulled you over for a reality check and you went on your way.
And at the end of the day, you still didn't get a ticket.

I believe that I didn't get a ticket cause there was nothing to get a ticket for... I think it was quite suspicious that I didnt indicate when I switched to the right lane, and DID indicate when I switched back to the middle 3 seconds later. Hmmmm.
Anyway, my point is: I don't trust the cops.
