I picked up my car with a brand new set of Federal super steel 535s front and rear. No doubt the previous owner traded it in with bald tires and the dealership fitted the cheapest set of tires they could find.

However they're not actually that bad to drive on. Their progression into oversteer is gradual and controllable, with fairly good grip available. I haven't driven on the S02's so can't compare but their purported on/off grip characteristic doesn't sound like a tire I'd like to drive on.

The wet weather performance doesn't seem particularly stellar, but it's ok.

I've done about 13000km on them now and there's probably about 1/3 left on the the rears, 1/2 left on the fronts.

After reading a few forums, they do appear to be one of the best crap tires At around $110 for a set of rears they seem to be pretty good value unless your chasing ultimate grip.

Bugger Bugger Bugger - I've done a bit of research on the web and been to visit two Michelin dealers. Seems they dont make the top Pilot Sport in 16" anymore. Previously I had been relying on an old Michelin brochure I had in my desk drawer that said they did have 16" sizes.

So, what am I gunna do now?? Anyone tried the Goodyear Eagles?

Thats the same tyres im running on the rear.. I got the cheapest one just to get roadworthy but they do handle good, not bad for $100 tyres
Im waiting for this summer to get some semi slicks and avoid the dangerous wet weather/slicks combo..

Cheap tyres? The one part of the car that is touching the road and you skimp on it.

It will be interesting to see how the Yokoham AVS perform, and also what it costs to a replace them in 255/35-18.

Ah - don't know - certainly have 225/50/16

Interestingly enough, one of the dealers (Bob Jane) said they'd refuse to fit 245/45 because they're worried about getting sued (in the event of an accident) for fitting "wrong" size - or non-standard - size tyres to the rims.

The other issue is that the Michelins that are available in 16" are only V rated and if we're worried about insurance companies wiggling out of a claim then we really need to fit W rated tyres.

I don't believe the goodyear eagles GSD3 offer that size over here in Aust.
I looked into this a while ago, but they may have changed since.
I'm pretty sure the sizes are listed on the goodyear website.

WRT the GS-D3s, my brother has them on his car so no reference to the S2K directly, however they wear better than any tires he's had previously (Michelin Pilot Sports, Precedas and MXF Sports and Azenis RT215s), wet weather grip is excellent, you don't need to back off when the skies open up, road noise is low (as quiet as the Precedas), dry grip is good IMO same ball park as Pilot Sports but not quite as nice. The only drawback I can think of for the S2K is that the sidewalls aren't that stiff, especially compared with what the OEM S-02s are like, although the benefit is a softer ride but don't know how high that is on your list of priorities RR.

All of that is IMHO of course!

After a few days of wet weather, I can say that the S0-3s are revelation in wet grip. Although most of you knew that already.
