Default Max power

I just bought a new S2000 this month and I can't wait to pull the engine up to 9000 revs.

Some of my mate told me that I need to pull the engine up to 9000 revs to get the car faster than before after the first service which is 1000km. But as I read through the user guide. If the car still in running period the engine should not exceed 5500 revs.

My question is: does anyone has pull the engine up to 9000 revs while the car is in running period (first 1000 km) if they did does the car will go faster rather than people who didn't force the engine??

I was good boy. I'm sure there is a good reason why Honda recommend that you shouldn't exceed 5500 in the first 1000 kms

Prior to breaking in the car, you should not redline the car in anyway. Recommended shifting points is at 4000 RPMs at every gear by Honda Japan, VTEC should no way be engaged at any point before the first 1000KM service. But, it's up to you ... It's your car at the end of the day.

I also wondering. If we not allowed to pull up the engine to the red line. How about those who bought Ex demo car??? I'm pretty sure those people who tried in the demo car pull the engine to the red line.

That's why you should never buy a demonstrator vehicle!

I'd like to disagree ... I bought my ITR as a demo for 38750 with 7500 for my trade in (in Melbourne actually).

The best deal I had here in Sydney was with Rick D. at 6k for trade in and 46000 purchase price. So 40k change over value vs 32k. BIIIIIG difference.

So it had 5k kms on it and was thrased to bits ... hell I thrash it even more now! (AND LOVE IT!)

Demo models specifically meet the 1000 KM run-in procedure as well. If the demo vehicle has not reached the 1000 KM mark, they will not permit you to redline or VTEC the car. The dealer covers the 1000 KM service and it is then allowed to be redlined or VTEC appropriately. Though, you are not gonna expect to be trashing the shit out of any demos. Unless you're on good relations with the dealers or you have a deposit on a new or used one.

I agree with takashi.
However any demo car sold usually below 1000k especially s2000. I guess the dealer doesn't want to risk the car if something goes wrong with the engine after 1000k. that's why they sold it before it reach 1000k, usually 150-400 k's. with reasonably lower than $80k. That's what i've seen so far.

That's right ... On the other hand, having too many demos in the showroom is a waste of space and the lease of the car itself. Besides, how many people walks into a typical showroom and wishes to buy an S2K? I'll say about 5 in a month I guess?

Looking at the total number of S2Ks sold and that should average that it's not the usual car you walk into a dealer to buy rather instead to buy something else and admire the presence of the S2K itself being one of the top models in its class.
