Learned something amazing when shifting 1st to 2nd
Ok, apologies if this has been posted before, but I've never read it and thought I would share.
I've always found 1st to 2nd shift a little notchy when cold, but no problems when warmed up, nice and smooth snick snick shifts from first to second.
While getting used to the car I learned that it's also good when shifting from 1st to 2nd to apply firm pressume to the left keeping it firmly in the 1-2 plane. I noticed when tired if I wasn't paying attention and my 1-2 gearchange got a little sloppy the transmission would baulk a little.
So back to when cold, it's a little notchy, and when very cold (car parked outside on Mt Dandy in winter) quite notchy, so for the first km or so, the first 4 or 5 shifts I will always double clutch as follows, clutch in, shift from first to neutral but keeping the lever in the 1-2 plane, clutch out, slight pause, clutch in, shift into second, release clutch. This has worked fine for me.
Changing to Redline in the gearbox improved stone cold shift quality a lot but I've still treated the box gently and double clutched.
Anyway to make a long story short I discovered someting the other day that gives me perfect shifts from 1st to 2nd even when absolutely stone cold. All I need to do is clutch in, shift out of 1st into neutral allowing the lever to center, then shift into 2nd and release the clutch. When doing this the gear lever slots easily into 2nd smooth as anything. I wish I'd discovered or read this sooner!

Nice work Joe!! Which Redline did you use and how much/where to buy it from?
Anyway, I had it changed at CRS, so I'm not sure which grade (there's 2) Carl used or the exact price for the redline.
I have bought it before though when I had a Swift GTi and got it from Oil World in Cheltenham and retail, it was about $110 per gallon (4.?L) which was money well spent as the shift quality in the Swift improved dramtically.
