the test was done at 75% of the rev range.....it was something like 6750 if i remember correctly.....

taaxed - nah i'm relatively quiet down my own street, i got pulled over by some cops once in the local area and two weeks later got an EPA sent in from the cops. I was nice to em too and they didnt even make reference to the noise on the exhaust when they spoke with me.

And true there is no worthwhile horsepower gain with the exhaust upgrade but i think a louder more aggressive exhaust note would be fully sick.....

@Jabcab - Have you considered a resonatorectomy before shelling out for an entire new exhaust?

mattG - sure you can do things like put in a test pipe or remove the resonator on the stock exhaust which will make the exhaust considerably louder, cheaply. In the event that I have to present the car for a dB or EPA test I'll have no stock exhaust to put on though!

With a test pipe you do don't you? My understanding was that it was a bolt in replacement for your cat?

How does a stock zorst exceed the limit anyway? What am I missing?

aust, yer test pipe is a bolt in but removing the resonator will involve them chopping it out of the stock exhaust pipe and welding in a pipe.

stock exhaust is bang on 90dB, replacing the cat with a test pipe and/or removing the resonator should make it quite a bit louder.

hrmm perhaps test pipe isn't such a bad idea on the stock exhaust. If you get pinched just pop in the stock cat back in.

WORD OF WARNING!

Dont take off the resonator it sounds like $hit and your car will sound like a civic fart can.

Just do the decat if you can or get those toda or J's test pipes where you can use the stock cat covers so it looks like you still have a cat on!

I took resonator out on mine and to tell you the truth I cant feel or hear any difference to exhaust sound, maybe a bit in highr revs but not much, I was hoping it's gonna be a bit more louder but really nothing much changed. I think I will just try and change my mufflers, get something bit less restrictive (not cannons) but nothing too loud, was thinking of test pipe but I'm too scared of big fine plus I'm not really willing to take my part for extra pollution:-) and for the price of good test pipe I can get two mufflers and drive with out worries.
