IMO NCB is just a copout that makes people feel as though they are getting rewarded with a better deal. Its the full premium that you need to look at first because that's where they sting you for any unfavourable characteristics and they make sure that they compensate for when they take the magic 60% off.

Have a look at the terms and conditions that most insurance companies currently include in their policies and remember that it aint just 'cos its christmas. I can insure with Royal Sun Alliance and receive 60%NCB without previously having insured a vehicle and that is protected so that if I make a claim my no claim bonus is unaffected

NCB = IMO

I agree with you Austblue, the NCB system is more a way of penalising bad drivers (with low NCB) as the majority of insured people have a max NCB.

I know NRMA def. work differently to Royal Sun. Your name has to have been listed on the policy for X years to recieve the corresponding NCB. However they will give you some NCB if you have been driving for a certain period of time even without insurance.

However in this case i'm guessing Toby wanted the car under his name and hasn't been driving for all to long so they didn't give him any bonus. 12K sounds about right for chatswood as I was quoted a full rate of 16K living in western sydney bra!

I've seen a few vague disparaging remarks about AAMI in this and other threads. Can you explain in detail what your problems, issues, or experiences were with AAMI?

Do a search on AAMI in the Aus section.

Oops, sorry for posting w/o first searching. I've seen your msg(s) where the "AAMI-preferred" repairer stuffed up your repair. Sad pics of your car disassembled in the panel beater shop

I've been with AAMI for my current car. Had one claim (not my fault, on the other party's insurance, so it's not really even a claim), but the repair was coordinated thru AAMI. Their repairer did the work, it seems OK to me.

At first, I liked the idea of a lifetime NCB. But, it seems like that is a fallacy, if not downright false advertising. If they say "hmmm, you had a claim, it cost us money, you still get your lifetime NCB, but your premiums are $1000 higher this year" - I mean, WTF does the "lifetime NCB" mean, if your premiums go up?

BTW, I found this interesting article about high insurance while Googling: http://moneymanager.smh.com.au/banking/gui...cles/car03.html

Just a heads up guys & gals.

My father has two cars registered in his name. He got a greenslip renewal sent to him from NRMA (or maybe GIO), which he thought was a bit high.

He checked out the greenslip prices through www.maa.nsw.gov.au and found it was approx $200 cheaper from the SAME PLACE (NRMA) compared to the renewal notice.

This was the second time it has happened.

Always double check the price before paying a renewal notice.
