Insurance insanity
My insurance renewal is due so I thought I'd shop around. I got a flyer from BudgetDirect in the mail so I thought I'd check them out.
After crashing my browser a couple of times I gave up on their online system and called them. They were busy so I left a message. They call back and start the quote procedure. They asked if I have the factory option 'Metallic Paint' I said it is metallic but it's not an option. I then told them I have the factory option front spoiler. No go!
Ok, so if I didn't have the spoiler what would the cost be? Wouldn't tell me. Told me to remove it and ring back tomorrow. I realise they were suggesting I just ring back tomorrow and if I like their quote I could then remove the spoiler but hey, it's a piece of plastic! I asked if they could give me a quote assuming I had removed the spoiler? No way! This is being recorded.
It was about then I realised I didn't want their policy about as much as they didn't want my business.

That's just crazy.... if a car has 'factory' options, then they should be happy to insure the car!!
Obviously, they're trying to get business via being 'underwritten' by a bigger insurance co. (who has v.strict conditions) OR they are using a 'broker' for their collective business?!
I had a similar situation the other month, when I was calling Telstra re my brother's (who's living in HK) phone account I've got authority on. He had neglected to give me the 'password'.... but the Telstra chick was happy to give me clues and for me to spend time guessing?!

Thankfully these crooks are stupid as well as unfair so we have a chance at knowing what we are to expect.
Id just try some of the firms mentioned earlier on this forum and take advantage of other peoples experience and price shopping.
So I guess metallic paint is going to motivate people to steal your car?????
At this stage in the conversation I would be asiking what they were

My AAMI policy has gone from $1100 to $2100 in the three years I've had my car. And I'm supposedly on 70% NCB and over 30.
