A few weeks ago whilst driving, the temp gauge jumped up a bar or two. After checking the radiator it was bone dry. I filled it up again and kept driving however a few days later it was empty again. There were absolutly no leaks in my parking spot and I mostly drive the car on weekends.
I took it for a service and turns out the radiator cap wasn't holding presure. This was the only issue that was identified even though I made it clear that there might be more serious issues considering the frequent overheating, loss of coolant and rough/low idle.
At the moment the car sounds like a mix between a lawn mower and a boxer engine and im really reluctant to drive it. Problem is I've had it with my regular mechanic (Chasers) and cant think of a reputable place to have the repairs done. Im not %100 that it is the head gasket but after speaking with a few mechanics this seems to be the case. The block has been sleeved (Darton) and would need a Darton gasket, so that rules out any dealership.
If CRS automotive weren't so far away (I live inner city) id take it there. I called Modproject but I cant get the car in there until somtime after new years.
I'd like the car fixed ASAP and in time for the summer. If anyone can suggest a decent mechanic/shop that have the know how, im open to suggestions.

I live around the corner from Chasers yet still decided to take my car to Carl @ CRS. It was a fair hike but let me tell you, it was well worth it.
Your best bet is to take it to a reputable mechanic who knows the car, and Carl is that mechanic.

The DIY is out of the question, dont have the time, the tools and certainly dont have the know how.
If worst comes to worst I might just have to send it to Carl on a tow truck. Im still considering other options at this stage.
