Default Help Pls Power Steering problems

Hi All,

My EPS signal is on and I have no power steering in my car. I took it to Honda and they had a quick check and said that my power steering unit needs to be replaced. Cost around $2,000.

Has anyone experienced this problem?
And does it needs to be replaced or can be fixed elsewhere, if so where?

Thanks in advance..
Simon

Wow, that sucks.

If I were in your shoes I would pull the unit and see if a I could see the problem and fix it. Short of that, search the wreckers for a replacement.

Might also check the US forums. Not entirely sure the LHD is the same (and it could well be different) but I'd be checking anyway.

Good luck with it.

I had a "search" through the Oz & Under the Hood forums but couldn't quickly identify any relevant threads.

Is the steering unit a sealed unit?

I just had a look through the manual. There are three fuses relating tot he power steering and you should check all three first. Then there is a whole diagnostic procedure to go through to work out where the problem lies.

The RHD and LHD are very similar and most of the diagrams say 'symmetrical'. That said, it depends what the problem is as to whether or not you can use a part from the LHD set up. If it's just the motor I would be very tempted to give it a go.

But knowing Honda technicians I'd put a few bucks on it being one of the fuses.
