By the way, the law states that if you're on a multi-lane road with the speed limit at 80kph or more, you need to keep left unless overtaking. My interpretation of that law is you may travel in the right lane, however you must give way to a faster car coming up behind you, and move to the left as quickly as it is safe to do so. My own driving ethics extends this courtesy to any multi-lane road regardless of speed limit.

If he was doing say 75km/h or 100km/h in the right lane does he have a point to argue? Or does he have to be travelling faster than the mad 140km/h driver to justify his right hand lane hog?

I think you missed my point. My point in regards to your post was that if there's someone coming up behind you, you should not be 'blocking' them, nor make them pass you on the left. Common sense dictates that you should be in the left lane, to help with the trafic flow.

And I agree with Blackie - it doers not matter what speed you're doing, if there's a faster car coming up behind you then common courtesy is to move over and let them by.

Not that its particularly relevant, as other writers have observed I was driving lawfully, but I had just completed a right hand turn into the road. You have to know the layout of the streets (its in the city centre more or less) but that lane then moves straight ahead, with the left lane "Left Turn Only".

I'm not claiming to be a perfect driver, but in this case I was driving as both the law, safety and my intended direction dictated.

But a car doing 140 PLUS is endangering life, no matter the circumstances, particularly in city streets.

Lepardsocks, I was not trying to imply that there you had other options, but was trying to see woy you would be there considering that you wanted to turn left, and were in the right lane.
