Everytimg I see an Elise/Exige on the road I always stare at it, as it is by no means a common sight. I also looked at an early model Elise when I was shopping for my S2000.
Something very special about the last of the air-cooled Porsches - also the best looking IMHO.

I too checked out the S1 Elise before buying the S2k in '99. Back then, didn't have luxury of a second car..

Maybe an M roadster (whens the new model being released), or even a Boxster with a 996 engine in it (there are some floating around), or even a Boxster S if it floats your boat?
Hard a good hard look at the Boxster S - in some ways a better car than the 996 but ironically, its popularity is its own downfall! There has to be 3x more Boxter/Boxter S as there are S2000!

That obviously is not a rational reason NOT to buy a car - just a case of wanting individuality without resorting to Bling-Blings!

Disagree on that one Suit. I see 10 times as many S2ks as Boxsters in Melbourne and all the Boxsters are a different colour to each other.

Fair call - dependent on area you spend most time I guess. Being based in Sydney's North Shore (near people older and richer than me) and living less than 500m from SVM porsche dealership probably skews my chances slightly!

Elise Elise Elise Elise Elise.. man I so love the Elise, I would pick one up the moment I can afford one! Either the electric blue or the yellow

I guess i'm alittle biased, i'm sure the car is hard to live with at times..

Wow October 1999 - one of the very first models.
Did you end up having many problems with the car?

I picked mine up a couple of days after Suit36. My "Built date" plate says September 1999. I had the clutch replaced (under warranty) at the 30,000 Km mark. It's now close to the 60,000 Km mark and going well.

It would be a misconception to think that the early models had excessive problems. I know many of the "old timers" who first joined the club in early 2000 and there were very few problems amongst that group. Lex had the gearbox grind but got a new gearbox under warranty.

Billyblue, Turkey & YellaFella were all early starters too.

My '99 was built in August and I had it up to 80K. Only problem was the clutch buzz but it function was nice, i.e not bitey but little to no slip depending on the circumstance. I had a slight 2nd gear grind but wouldn't describe it as a significant problem at all.
