In the Wheels article they were talking about shifting the fuel opening to the centre and raising the rear of the body a bit. I don't know if this is going to push back the redesign of the hardtop again (remember the clay had the fuel going in one of the circles at the side?).
It is sort of expensive but it is custom suspension and stuff. They could have done it a lot simpler (have a look at an X7 if you want to see simple - ladder frame, live rear end, etc). It is sort of a competitor to the new Marcos I guess (same engine/driveline). It is also ridiculously easy to get more grunt out of the things too.
According to the Wheels 2005 Yearbook (which has some great shots by a young up-and-coming photographer Easton Chang) it looks like the $130K Elfin is within spitting distance of the (about to be superceded) $270k Porsche Turbo S (esp above 100kmh) when it comes to straight line acceleration.

I'd say that the Elfins are about $60 - $70k too expensive. Not sure wwhy they copsat that much ... afterall it uses most of Commodore hardware you can get one of those for $45k (from a delater). So what do you pay the other $100k for?
The problem that the Elfin has is this:
http://www.radical.net.au/flash.html
You an get one of these for $80 to $100k and I can't see the Elfin coming anywhere close to it it terms or performance.

The Commodore argument is not even worth dignifying with a response. If youcan't see from the pictures what else goes into the car then get them eyes checked.

Closer but still pointless would be a comparison to the Ariel Atom, wich has a car engine (200hp from a Civic) and could theoretically be road registered. But as our own Chris_Barry will tell you having a car engine is not enough. And if you ask him nicely he'll tell you how much he's spent on his F20C powered PRB. And if 100K was your budget then the MS8 clubman in race trim is more what you should be looking at.
Finally (and slightly on a tangent) the true entry cost for a radical will be a good 15 to 30K higher should you not happen to have a trailer and something to pull it with.
