Diff ratio help and Yellow Box Help!
Hi Guys,
So one of the past owners of the S2000 I purchased reckons it has a 4.77 installed.
I set my cruise control on 60kms, it was sitting on 2000rpm and my GPS said I was doing about 54kmh not 60.
Is there any other way I can check? When you change the ratios I know the speedo gets effected but do the revs stay the same or do they become out of whack also?
If I were to buy this http://www.ricks2k.com/products/yb.php will the plug and play work for our RHD Aussie model S2k's?
I've tried searching but find mixed results, u.s results, or not so clear results so want to find out for my self!
Thanks in advance!
Phil

Its not that the revs go out of "whack" its just physics. Shorter ratios means the engine has to work faster to maintain the speed hence the higher rpm's. At 60 if you had 4.77's you'd be sitting around the 52 mark. The readings you're depending on aren't all that reliable but given your findings i'd imagine you may have gears. Ricks/modifry sell the unit (yellow jacket/box) and yes both can be used to recalibrate the speedo.

6th gear - 60kmh - 2000rpm? (Cluster)
6th gear - 60kmh - 2250/2300rpm (gps)
Sound stock or....?

Rev range is accurate but not the speedo. I would get the box cause it will clock more KM than it really is. I here there is a place in queensland that has a box that is direct plug in to fix the speedo, I will find out.

Yellow box is an aussie company. They now offer a direct plug and play version so no alteration of your wiring is needed.

Thanks guys, may buy one with plug and play harness!
On dyno today the Dyno was reading 100km whilst my cluster showed 112km.
Are stock usually that much out? If not is it possible I may have 4.44's? mmmmm

No. Although there are several factors that can influence the reading, it shouldn't be in error by that much. Based on the speeds you've mentioned, you probably have a 4.56/4.57 FD (i.e. 112/100 ~ 4.56/4.1).
