Default Diff Noise

So the jist is, off the light on Sunday, 5k dump, too much grip, stress on diff, diff making lots of noise, i think i broke it.

It drives fine, just makes a shit load of noise. I havent driven it yet except for taking it down to the mechanic. He is checking it out but i wanted to get a second opinion.

Any reccomendations on who to take it to in MEL, preferably in the northern suburbs?

Cheers,
Kris

For cryo treatment try Cryogen Industries in Somerton. www.Cryogen.com.au. They're just behind the go Kart track. I got my Final drive treated there for about $100 a few years ago.

In regards to diff mechanics try www.transgearsdiffs.com.au. They're in Thomastown. I had them install my final drive, good price, nice guys, no issues. They've been around for decades.

On another note if you after a OEM final drive in excellent condition, let me know.

Good Luck

Alright guys, so i just got off the phone with Broger in Thomastown and they quoted me $1700 for new C&P from honda fitted, how does this fit in with price?

Also, has anyone got the Mazda NB or a KIA C&P installed and if so how is it and how much did it end up costing?

Thanks WhiteAP1, i called cryogen and they quoed 120 for the diff to be treated which im happy with and it just so happens its around the corner from my house!

Cheers

If your going to stick with standard ratio, probablly more cost effective finding either a second hand set (regardless who you buy it from) or a mazda 4.10. And if your after peace of mind, have that set cryo treated.

Call Honda yourself and see how much an OEM crown and pinion cost. I'll bet it will be at least half of the $1700 you'll end up owing.

And if you are looking at spending that sort of money, look into a lower ratio like a 4.77 (kia) or 4.44 (mazda). J's racing and Ricks have some nice products, but they aint cheap.

In the end its your call

I installed a Mazda 4.1 NB CWP. It cost from memory $650 new plus approx $500 for a full bearing set and fitting. I also fitted a Kaaz LSD at the same time. ($1500).

It had better detail on the ends of the teeth around the root area. This area was where the cracks in my Honda one were propagating from.

So far its outlasted 2 rear halfshafts and a season and a halfs circuit racing.

So, i've been very productive at work by reading through almost every thread relating to diffs and component. Now my car is at a honda Mechanic who has looked after my car well in the past but after reading the threads, its seems that i should have taken the car to a diff specialist to get the centre and C&P replaced as it seems that it is quite a tedious task.

Should i be worried?
