Diff or axle?

Brisbane actually! I don't really want to change my ratios or anything - would like to keep it more stock. Diff specislist is looking at it today and giving me an answer by tomorrow as to how much of the diff needs replacing.
If it is the crown and pinion - is the Mazda one the same ratio? If so, how easy are these to obtain and are there any performance degradation etc. to that of the S2000 stock diff?

You are assuming they are different but compatible. They are not. They are the same thing. Mazda make the S2000 and Kia Sportage diffs. And they use Torsen centers for ours.
Honda are the world's largest engine maker. They also make some cars, but much of their manufacturing is outsourced.

yup. and if you get it cryo treated you will end up coming out with a much stronger diff than stock.
you can go back to eastern creek and dump it at 9 all day long then!
until.... something else breaks.

That's what I would do for sure but you might want to get a ride in one that has already been done if that is possible, just so you can see how it is at the higher revs.

robert112 - how is it? Haha. I dunno - if I'm gonna pay that kind of money I wouldn't mind improving my low end acceleration but I am a bit OCD about what mods I do to a car.

look. without getting into too much detail. for me personally
i put an average of 4 cars on stock s2k's. I've done this like 10 times now.
in terms of driving highways i sit at about 4100 rpm doing 110.
drivability is arguably easier. yes i do shift more but i never drop a gear to overtake. I leave it in 6th and have plenty of low end torque.
it IS a apain in the ass to get the yellow box installed. I suggest you bribe aus with some sort of alcohol to do it for you.
