Default Counting my lucky stars!

Heya all,

This morning I am counting my lucky stars. I just had the BIGGEST near miss ever and it scared the crap out of me.

I was driving to the airport (inMelb) you know,Kings Way, left onto the highway and then the big loop onto Citylink. The limit there is100, recommended 70. I was going 90 (usually that's an easy speed to take), and suddenly half way through the loop my rear end went into oversteer and I spun out, first sliding sideways, then did a harsh backwards flick which ended up turning into a 360deg.

WTF!?!?!?!?! Tread is fine, pressure is fine. What the hell happened? Should I go check allignment? Shocks? Luckily it's in Long Term parking for a few days to have a think about what it's done!

Luckily, nothing hit and thanks to fast reaction from other drivers I didn't get T-boned. 3 lanes, metal rails on both sides, and 5 cars behind me and not a scratch.... not much comfort about what happened, but not a scratch none the less.

Iggy, probably nothing wrong with the car. Much more likely that there was oil (or something) on the road surface.

Did you start your journey from the city (Kingsway) ? ....if yes, probably because the tyres were still cold. Not warm enough to grip when you push a little faster than normal....I do notice this in the morning every time I started driving...so becareful when driving on cold tyres....

Cheers
Thomas

I've heard of this before. It's a consequence of the car being overbalanced by its metal roof. Solution: trade the ITR for an S2K.

Oh of course - I forgot he wasn't driving an S2000.

Was there any light rain in the morning or overnight? Light rain tends to bring out all the grease on the road and can make things slippery - heavy rains tends to wash it away.

Other than that ... don't know.

Sound like oil or similar on the road, or something is loose/broken in your suspension or inside a shock.

An extreme explaination could be you were abducted by an alien ship, molested and dropped back to earth travelling the right direction but facing slightly the wrong way. Any pains around the nether regions?

Speedracer.
