Clutch and gearbox
On my last service, my mechanic pointed out that the the noise from my gearbox was a little louder since last time. It's the noise the gearbox makes when sitting in neutral and idling. Once I depress the clutch however the noise goes away. He said it was something along the lines of blah blah gears blah blah (sorry I wasn't paying attention at the time for some reason). It wasn't a huge issue but could be wearing away the blah blah gear teeth. So I just said don't worry about it until I need my clutch replacing and do it all at once since it will require some $$$ labour hours. However my clutch (still the original one) is still going strong after nearly 115000km, so just wondering if I should be worried about the noise and get it looked at before I need a clutch replacement. The noise doesn't bother me however unless it's bad for my car.

"Throw-out bearing" I think that's what it's called.
It should be replaced when you eventually get your clutch replaced. If it is that, I wouldn't worry about it.
If it's really noticeable, just pretend you've got an old rattley twin-plate in there.

I thought the thrust bearing was between the fork and press plate?
Edit: Quote "One specific thrust bearing in an automobile is the clutch 'throw out' bearing, sometimes called the clutch release bearing)."
ahh - so a thrust bearing is used as a throwout bearing... makes sense now
