Default CF Hood - Illegal?

I have been told that an aftermarket CF Hood with the fiberglass underlay are illegal? It would be an immediate yellow sticker if the cops pulled you over. But a hood that is full CF such as those supplied by the likes of C-West are legal.

I do not comprehend someone please explain? Is it only WA that this idiocy occurs?

It would most likely be because the fibreglass hoods will snap causing sharp shards to inflict harm whereas the dry carbon hoods are extremely strong and will not snap but rather bend. There were pictures on this site a while back that showed an S2000 that had a frontal collision that bent the hood into an A frame and when the owner released the authentic J's hood it snapped back into its original shape more or less.

I have heard that CF hoods were considered dangerous because in a frontal collision they failed to break/fold and could result in serious injury such as decapitation.

Not sure about CF/FRP combos. Sounds more like marketing hype to get you to buy a full CF hood to me.

I couldn't see why WA would find it advantageous economically to coerce car enthusiasts towards buying foreign products? Or do you mean that perhaps its a conspiracy dealt by the JDM aftermarket car product manufacturers O_o

I'm not suggesting WA is saying this. I'm suggesting that whoever K2S spoke to said this and either said it because they were trying to sell a full CF bonnet, or heard it from someone who was being sold a full CF hood.

In answer to the original question, no it is not only WA that is subject to dumb opinions and self servicing advice from unethical vendors.

Or, it could be true. But I doubt it.

Apologies my England is good not naishou, tanks for pointing out my language...puh lease!

I just forget sometimes that I am in the aussie forum I get carried away typing in US terminology especially when they are talking in miles (now thats annoying). Also agree with austblue most places it reads CF hood.

Anywais back to the topic...

A friend of mine supplies imported goodies "copies" and "real" in Perth. I was told by him, he advised me not to get it as it was illegal, same with aftermarket xenons. But he did not explain why - the BONNET that is He makes money on both types of BONNETS so i dont think he was trying to flog me the real BONNET but was advising me as a friend on the BONNET

So is it illegal in other states?
