well ive sorta decided on a pair of Rockford fosgate speakers... model P162.. i heard it compared to some others like Mb quarts and i like the sound of the RF ones better.. more meat/bassy since i aint got no sub woofer going in my car yet. They're wierd as they are actually three way speakers but come with 4 tweeters and two cones and there are brackets for if u want to mount one or both tweeters in front of the cone as an option, wierd but effective i reckon from hearing it.He gave me a good deal with a rockford HU...BUT i dont think the modifry DCI is compatible so i have to see what other headunits are good. Alpine i saw someone type??? good???

Hi Guys
I'm running 6.5" Infinity splits, Alpine head unit, amp and stacker. I've also added the harness to enable the dash controls. The infinity's sound quality is good, they handle power well, nice clean notes, but a little more bass wouldn't go astray. I've been advised that Focal splits would be worth considering, as the guy i spoke to, reckons they would perform pretty close to having a system with a sub.
I'd love to install a sub, but the limited luggage carrying space is whats holding me back.

How shit is the HU in 02+ model?
It is rated as 40W x 4. Is that enough to power some decent speakers? or doI really need amps.
Iwas thinking of just changing the front speakers/tweeder as well. Didn't want to buy another HU, and a DCI.
Was also thinking about the NEO ipod adptor. Any suggestions?

Here's a thought experiment. Suppose you have $400. If you spend it on an amp and speakers you will get better sound than if you spend it all on speakers.
The OEM HU outputs 12w (00-01) and 17w (02-up).

Thanks Aus
not quite sure about the rating system. If the 02+ HU has 40w written in the book, and has real output of 17 like you say. Is that comparable to other big brands' so call 40w x 4 HUs?
Might gamble with a small amp and speakers.
