Anyone for DECA on 19th November?
The Skyline club will be hosting another DECA day on the 19th of November. The last one I went to was a blast, and I will definately be at this one. If you're not sure what DECA is about, or what was the Skyline one like, then check out the following clips as they were taken from the last Skyline-club DECA day:
- 350Z (me), 2nd attempt at 'khana#2 (2.60Mb)
- 350Z (me), 3rd attempt at 'khana#4 (garage) (1.58Mb)
- STi RA (Blaise), 3rd attempt at 'khana #1 (2.28Mb)
The Skyline DECA day is competition day, so you get into cone-dodging courses straight away and all the runs are timed. They also use the back track, and also have a fair few head-to-head copetitions in the afternoon. Also, as you can see from the clips, the Skyline cone-dodging tracks are a lot more open and you get to pick up a lot more speed then normal ... in few instances you even need the 3rd gear.
Because of the nature of the event, CAMS license and car-club memberships will be required, as well as an extinguisher and a helmet (which does not need to be worn on the skid-pan). Entry forms will be available in about a week, but when they will be, they will go quick as there will be only 50 spots. There's already a lot of interest ... looks like most of the people who were there last time will be there again. Price will be around $60.
So anyone here insterested? If so, then I'll keep you guys posted and let you know when the entry form is available.

was the track any bit wet?
Not in this case ... the concrete there is very much like what you'd find in the carparks in the city. ie. pretty smooth and slippery.
They do have sprinclers there and do switch them on sometimes, but not on this day. As you can see it's not like it was hard to slide the cars anyway.
what speeds do you achieve?
Just over 100kph and that would be whenever you cut right across the whole skid-pan. Though, around the rerally tight u-turns I'm not even sure if you're doing 10kph at the slowest point.

I would go normally but the HSCCV track day at Winton is the following week so I may reserve my weekend away for that. I'd recommend anyone else going to the skidpan however. At only 50 cars, you will get plenty of track/skid time.

if i was living east coast id be at all your events no questions asked
hehe, the STi you see in one of the clips posted above is actually from Perth. Though, he's been here for just over a year so it's not like he drove here just for that.
Still, if anyone is interested then here's the entry form:
DECA 19/11/2005 - Entry form
60 places available and 40 if them are already gone, so if you're contemplaiting it, then you better contemplate quickly.

is his surname mortimer?
No, it's not. His 1st name is Blaise and the STi is very nicely modded. Runs low 12s in the 1/4mile and has clocked 1:04 at Calder, 1:53 at Phillip Island, and 1:36 at Winton.
