If I find that the top end feels a bit rough, the engine is usually low on oil...after i top it up the next day it sounds smooth as...so maybe thats whats happened?

i had a brand new engine dropped in about 30,000 km ago. I check the oil weekly. It never gets below one X on the dip stick. Perhaps its my local shell that is shitty, i do notice sometimes filling up from different petrol stations you can get bad batches of fuel.

I just find that the car runs must better on 95 RON from Shell. I'm not sure on other brands like BP or Caltex cuz i have a shell card and only fill up from shell.

I reckon just try out the Shell 95 RON premium unleaded and see for yourself.
