70000km service
hey guys i got a quote for my 70000km service from honda - $179
all they do is change the oil and oil filter, as well as check 101 different things...
should i just drop the oil @ home and save myself over well over $100 or should i stick with the service history and get a nice little $179 stamp in my book?
thoughts?
cheers

Depends how much your time is worth and whether you could be bothered. If not under warranty, I would do it myself or just get a competent mecahnic to do it for you which would be much cheaper than a dealer.

Do it yourself. It's a good experience.
You'll want to change the oil filter at the same time. You'll need an oil filter wrench but you can pick them up for as little as $6 from Supercheap. And if you use a K&N filter they have a 1" nut on the end so you just need a shifter to put the new one on.

Personally I prefer a car with a full service history, so if the history is complete to date, I would spend the extra money - you're likely to keep you possible market for a future sale (not that you would ever want to sell the car) as wide as possible.
Just my opinion

That is a valid point, but as I have no intention of selling my car, and "stock, only driven to church on Sundays" is not likely to be in any description of my car my priorites are different. I feel I can do a better service, with better parts and less hassle than any of the service centres I've been too. And the feel of nice warm oil on your hands just has to be experienced. YMMV
