Japanese S2000 owners!
S2000 owner in Las Vegas here, but will be heading to Japan next year for work.
Since it is prohibitively expensive and impractical to import my car to the island I was considering purchasing a vehicle over there for cheap, and at the edge of my budget ( around 10,000 dollars, would maybe be an S2000.
My question is, how expensive is it to own and operate a car there, and more specifically an S2000. Also, as a foreigner working there, would I have to get a special license or apply for one before I could drive over there?
Your input is much appreciated!

Hi,
Please check this website out for a couple of awnsers to your questions.

Your choices for a S2000 are going to be pretty limited but if you were to be shopping for one today this is what you would come accross. All of these are less than $10,000. They are all located in the Tokyo area.

I just glanced at that first link.... lots of good info.
One thing (and maybe it was mentioned, I just missed it).... but I believe you need to have proof of a garaging space before purchasing a car.

From what I've heard, it is pretty expensive to own and operate your own vehicle in Japan and unless you really need personal transportation, it doesn't seem cost effective or necessary. Hence the shinkansen and various other trains and buses are how the majority of people commute. Personal cars seemed to be a rarity there, at least in the Tokyo area. Either way, good luck and hope you enjoy work there!
