stereo upgrade
has anyone had a new stereo installed in an S2000 by one of the local shops in the Sport/Bossier area? I'm prob gonna do it myself but I wondered if there is a good installer locally. I'm prob gonna change out the head unit and add rear speakers in the panel behind the seats. No sub.........not sure about adding a sep amp yet.

thanks guys....I'm not worried about the actual install. I'm having more trouble finding out what brand of 5.25 speakers will fit in the back panels. I'm getting an Alpine 9857 HU with new door speakers most likely. Already ordered Modfry DCI. I'm just not sure whether to get another amp. No subwoofer planned as of yet.

I don't post here much but hello to all.
I would have to say that if you are upgrading, you really need to consider changing out the front speakers as well. If your new headunit has any power at all, you will probably be overpowering the stock speakers even at moderate volume = not so great sound.
For a long time, I ran a "high power" alpine headunit and some aftermarket (CDT CL61) front speakers, lucid rear panels with kenwood 5.25's, and that small clarion powered sub (srv303 maybe?). It was decent sounding, and too loud for most passengers. If you don't care about bass very much, you will be happy with a headunit and new front speakers + rear panel speakers.
I am not too sure what models of speakers will fit in the lucid rear panels, I just ordered mine with speakers already in them since I knew I would not be sending much power to them anyway. If you are not planning to amplify the rears (most don't) then I'm not sure that the brand really matters that much. Mine are faded way down until I can just barely hear them anyway. The tricky part is just finding ones that will fit. Maybe try to search the electronics forum? But really, I have no complaints with the kenwoods that came in mine, ymmv.
As for adding in an amplifier, I have done this recently (100W x2 to the fronts) and think it makes a nice improvement to sound quality.
I also had some old bass shakers lying around that I had gotten from parts express for like 30$. I never got around to putting them in because I had no way to power them before and I was afraid they would seem too "fake." After installing them, I think they are not so bad actually, and really help give the illusion of decent bass without a sub. Felt a little strange at first, but I quickly got used to them.
I think with new headunit, new front speakers, adding rears, amplifying fronts, and adding bass shakers, I have stepped up to a new plateau in sound quality, and this level would probably be more than enough for most people. IMO, to get to the next level, you would probably need a good 8 or 10" sub.
Good luck man. Feel free to PM me if you want to see my setup or have questions about how I did any of it...
