ndk4, Thank you for your service to USA!
I live in NW Arkansas, and we have many great "S" roads in this Ozark mountains area. If you should decide to go through NW Arkansas, PM me and I can offer some excellent routes to travel through (I do the route selections for the Boston Mountain Tours).

the "pig trail" is located in the NW part of Arkansas. it is hwy 23 and hwy 16, and goes from Ozark up north to Fayetteville. It has made it onto many top ten driving roads lists, and is a blast to drive! also, a bit east of there is hwy 7 and hwy 123. i particularly enjoy hwy 123 east of Jasper. its a ton of fun! and also, you cant forget Mt. Nebo. Just south of Russellville, in a town called Dardenelle. I believe its Hwy 155 that goes up the mountain. is has VERY sharp 10mph hairpin curves up an 18% incline. if you dont have the top down, you cant see the road ahead of you at some points.

let us know if we can help out anywhere!

Thank you for your reply! Still need some fine tuning, but how does it look in Arkansas?

That link isn't working for me. It pulls up google maps but doesn't show a route. You might have to click the LINK button and paste that here.

Nice! If you're like me and can never get enough twisties, instead of taking I-40 between Ozark and Russellville, check out Hwy 309 which will take you thru Mount Magazine. However, that makes the aforementioned Mount Nebo a little out of the way, so you might have to choose between the two... or do one route on your way there and the other route on your way back.

BTW, I must regretfully admit that Oklahoma roads are probabry the worst in this region, but if you plan on stopping in Tulsa, let me know about when and I'll see if I can round up a few locals to meet up. Otherwise, you might see about re-working your route to avoid any Oklahoma roads. Yeah, they are THAT bad.

^^^ thank you for your reply! I'm thinking... can it be that bad in Oklahoma? I've heard the road thru Kansas is going to be real boring, that's why I tried to steer away from KS. Do you have any other suggestions? For the road trip, I'll be coming thru there around 26 or 27 Aug. I'm going to try to make it back to Biloxi, MS by Friday or so, so I can unpack and get ready for work the following week.

On the way to CA, I'll be going thru TX, NM, AZ, and NV. I've never driven thru NM and AZ, so I'm going to give that a try.
