New Bumper

New Bumper
This weekend, Friday nite was traveling east on I-10 near Gonzales, doing about 80-85 mph. Some kinda animal ( I think it was a racoon) darted out in front of my car, and of course I ended up hitting it. Result - cracked front bumper, torn plastic underpiece, and a bunch of animal hair stuck in my grille. Needless to say I will need a new bumper, and probably have to get the car re-aligned.
Anyway, last time I replaced the front bumper I went to Allen's Body shop in Sorrento, I have always been satisfied with their work, and they did a great job last time. I'm probably gonna go sometime this week for an estimate, and get both with a 2002 bumper, and with the 2004 bumper. From the pics I have seen, they should be interchangeable, and I think I like the new one better, at the least, it will be a slight change in the look of the front of the car.
Does anyone see any problem with replacing my bumper with an 04, and do any of you have any other "highly" recommended body shops in or near BR?
Thanks.

sorry to hear you're baby took a hit...
there's a guy who's done a 04 front and rear bumper (as well as head and tail lights) on his car... he's got some ongoing posts in S2000 talk about it...
you might want to find his threads and PM him about it... i think the front goes on w/o modification but the rear stuff requires some changes.

From the posts on the "Talk" Forum, it appears no modification is necessary to change to an '04 front bumper. Only removal of the foam between the bumper & the frame.
I'm going to get Allen's to give me an estimate on both an '02 bumper & an '04 bumper. If the price is the same or minimal, I'm going with the '04.

yeah, the total estimate was $757.00 which includes, an 04 bumper, 04 impact absorber (the foam thing the guys in the S2 talk forum are referring to), and right front fender liner (plastic piece underneath that goes from under the front right side the bumper, throught the wheel well, and underneath the door a bit - it was ripped off by the hairy vermin that hit my car).
I dont have the estimate with me now, but if I remember correctly, it was just under 300 for the bumper itself, 40-50 bucks for the paint, and 2-3 hours of labor for the bumper only, that along with 0-1 hours for the clearcoat, at a labor rate of 40 bucks/hr (common for bodyshops) you could probably replace your bumper for under 500 bucks.
If you do decide to do it, check out Allen's - these guys have repaired about 8 accidents of mine, and they do exceptional work.
