no i understand where you're coming from.. but i come from driving an auto prelude and a 4-spd '77 toyota pickup. The S is quite different, haha. Once i learn how to granny drive it around perfectly (to my standards), then i'll learn how to "drive" the car the way it was made to be..

Autocorss isn't a balls to the wall speed-fest for first timers. You come out and drive the car on the course in a SLOW, steady and controlled manner. You practice "going slow to go fast" and focus on a proper line. You will not be competitive your first time out (just like all of the other beginners that will be there), but that isn't the point. Your purpose is to learn about car position and how to counteract the unwanted characteristics of the car (hence how you will learn how to save your ass on the street). You wont come within 10% of the car's full potential. Autocross is designed for all levels of drivers. You could quite literally drive a car off of the car lot and onto the autocross course.... and the best part is that you get to have fun while you learn how to not die....
Trust me, you want to learn about snap oversteer on the autocross course before you encounter it on the street! Do whatever you'd like, but you definitely have the wrong idea about autocross. There are kids in go karts who participate!
